Glutathione Dosage: Injection Figures and Units per Vial

No FDA label exists for injectable glutathione. This page reports the compounding, trial and vendor figures with dates, and works the units for every vial size.

Glutathione is the odd compound in this catalogue: not a research peptide in the usual sense, dosed in hundreds of milligrams rather than micrograms, and sold in vials of 200 mg to 2,000 mg. It is also, as of the week this page was written, the subject of a live public-health investigation into contaminated compounded injections. This page reports what the sources state, in the order of how much they can be checked, and then works the units for the five vial sizes the site's calculator uses.

Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, the main intracellular antioxidant in human cells. The injectable form is reduced glutathione (GSH), either compounded by pharmacies for clinics or sold lyophilised for research. The pattern is the reverse of most compounds on this site. The strongest sources, the cardiology and neurology trials, use the largest amounts, 1,200 to 2,500 mg by infusion, in hospital, for days. The smallest figures, 100 to 200 mg, appear only on vendor pages describing subcutaneous use, a route no trial in the table used.

The compounded product and the outbreak

Compounded glutathione is a 200 mg/mL solution. A 600 mg intramuscular figure is therefore 3 mL, and a 1,400 mg intravenous figure is 7 mL diluted into a bag; neither is an insulin-syringe draw. The CDC page reports that every product linked to the 2026 illnesses was compounded from an ingredient intended for dietary supplements, and states the reason plainly: supplement-grade glutathione should not be used in sterile injectables because of the risk of contaminants such as endotoxins. Three Texas pharmacies recalled lots of 200 mg/mL multi-dose vials for elevated endotoxin (FDA recall notices, listed in a search on 2026-09-18; the FDA pages themselves returned an access error and were not opened, so the CDC page is the source used here). This page reports the notice as it stands and does not interpret it.

Units per dose at each research-vial size

This site's calculator uses 200 mg, 600 mg, 1,000 mg, 1,500 mg and 2,000 mg vials. The table takes each at 1, 2 and 3 mL, states the concentration, and converts three figures from the record, 100 mg and 200 mg (vendor subcutaneous figures) and 600 mg (the intramuscular figure and the TAD 600 trial dose), into U-100 syringe units, where 100 units is 1 mL (MedlinePlus, read 2026-09-18); the site's insulin syringe units page covers the syringe reading itself. The infusion figures of 1,200 to 2,500 mg are diluted into saline in the trials and are not shown as syringe draws.

Two things the table makes visible. The compounded concentration, 200 mg/mL, is what a 200 mg vial reaches at 1 mL and a 600 mg vial at 3 mL; every larger vial at 1 to 3 mL is more concentrated than the product pharmacies dispense, up to ten times so. And the 600 mg figure fits a single 1 mL syringe only at 600 mg/mL or above, which with these vials means the 600 mg vial at 1 mL or the 1,000 mg vial and larger at 1 or 2 mL. What the figures omit

The trial figures carry a population (heart attack, Parkinson's disease, pancreatitis, pneumonia), a route (intravenous), a schedule and a duration, and they were chosen for those diseases. The compounding figure carries a route and a frequency but no population, and its own page states that the dose is decided by the prescriber. The vendor subcutaneous figures carry no population, no duration beyond a titration table, and no trial: no study in the indexed literature gives glutathione subcutaneously at 100 to 200 mg. The skin-lightening use that drives much of the search demand appears in none of the trial rows; the cosmetic products in the DailyMed results are creams and soaps, not injections. And none of the rows converts into an oral figure or from one, because the oral trials measured a different question.

Frequently asked questions

What is the glutathione injection dosage?

There is no labelled dose, because no glutathione injection is FDA-approved; a DailyMed search on 2026-09-18 found none. The figures that exist are a compounding pharmacy's citation of 600 to 1,400 mg per intravenous session two to three times a week, vendor pages' 100 to 200 mg subcutaneously and 600 mg intramuscularly, and trial regimens of 1,400 mg three times a week (Parkinson's disease, 2009) and 2,500 mg four times over three days (heart attack, 2019 and 2021). How many units is 600 mg of glutathione?

It depends entirely on the concentration. At 200 mg/mL, the concentration compounding pharmacies supply, 600 mg is 3 mL, three full 1 mL syringes. A 600 mg vial with 1 mL is 600 mg/mL and the whole vial is one 100-unit draw; with 2 mL it is 300 mg/mL and 600 mg is 200 units. A 2,000 mg vial with 2 mL is 1,000 mg/mL and 600 mg is 60 units. What is the glutathione protocol in the trials?

The trials are disease studies with fixed schedules, not wellness protocols. Hauser 2009 infused 1,400 mg three times a week for four weeks in Parkinson's disease and found no significant change in the UPDRS score. Tanzilli 2019 and 2021 infused 2,500 mg in 25 mL over 10 minutes before angioplasty and repeated it at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Huang 2005 gave 1.2 g a day for seven days in pancreatitis. A registered pneumonia trial gives 600 mg twice daily for five days. Abstracts and registration read 2026-09-18.

Is glutathione injection safe according to the sources?

The sources report an outbreak, not a safety verdict. The CDC page dated 2026-09-15 reports more than 25 people ill across at least four states after compounded glutathione injections made with dietary-supplement-grade ingredient, three hospitalised, all after intravenous use, with symptoms consistent with endotoxin. Three pharmacies recalled 200 mg/mL vials. The CDC advises clinicians not to administer products compounded from supplement-grade ingredient. This page reports that and adds no reassurance.

What is the difference between the oral and injectable glutathione dosages?

They are different routes with different studies. The oral trials used 250 to 1,000 mg a day for months (Richie 2015; Sinha 2018) and measured body stores. The injectable figures range from 100 mg subcutaneously on vendor pages to 2,500 mg intravenously in cardiology trials. The head search 'glutathione dosage' mostly reaches oral supplement users; this page is about the vial. Neither set of figures converts into the other, because absorption by mouth is a separate question the injectable studies did not ask.

How much water goes in a 600 mg glutathione vial?

No label answers that, so it is arithmetic. 1 mL gives 600 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 300 mg/mL and 3 mL gives 200 mg/mL, the last matching the concentration compounding pharmacies supply. Vendor pages use 2 mL, where 1 unit is 3 mg and 200 mg is 67 units.
